New Opel Astra GTC Concept : Frankfurt – New Car Trends.Opel automaker has showed this New Opel Astra GTC Concept at 2011 IAA Frankfrut Motor Show.2012 Astra GTC has been styled to provide enthusiasts with a sneak peek of the driving experience waiting once they strap in behind the wheel.Unlike many three-door versions of existing compact hatches, the GTC – like its predecessor – will be a standalone model in Opel’s range, conceived to resonate with a more driver-oriented customer base who value the way a car handles and performs as much as the way it looks.

New Opel Astra GTC Concept

To do this, engineers from both Opel in Rüsselsheim and Vauxhall Engineering Center in Millbrook, UK have developed a bespoke platform for the GTC. Key components – such as the HiPerStruts used on the front axle – have been derived from the 239 kW/325 hp Insignia OPC, while significant upgrades have been made to the GTC’s unique Watt’s link/compound crank rear end. So while the GTC line-up currently includes a broad range of engines producing from 88 kW/120 hp to 132 kW/180 hp, drivers can always be assured of class-leading levels of dynamic control.

New Opel Astra GTC Review

From the start of the New Opel Astra GTC’s development program the target was to deliver a driver-oriented feel to the car, and one that also worked well on UK roads. “Our aim was to exceed the best in class with the GTC’s dynamics,” said Michael Harder, Opel engineering’s supervisor for vehicle dynamics. “We also wanted to change the emphasis in steering and damper feel from the regular Astra 5-door to a set-up that was more focused, yet still comfortable enough for the most demanding roads in Europe and the UK.”

Much of the development centered around the introduction of Opel’s HiPerStrut to the GTC, a first for an Astra model. Based on the system currently seen on the 239 kW/325 hp Insignia OPC, the HiPerStrut uses the Astra’s existing pick-up points, but reduces the kingpin inclination angle by 44 percent and shortens the spindle length (kingpin offset) by 46 percent versus the MacPherson strut-equipped models. This helps prevent torquesteer – a trait of many powerful front-wheel-drive cars – allowing drivers to make more use of the New Opel Astra GTC’s performance without the steering being corrupted.

New Opel Astra GTC chassis has been designed to perfectly integrate Opel’s intelligent, fully-adaptive FlexRide chassis control system. It enhances driving stability with better cornering behavior and steering response by automatically adapting to road conditions, cornering speed, vehicle movements and individual driving style. Better road holding and vehicle balance also enhance driving safety in emergency situations. In addition, FlexRide offers three different settings, enabling a change to the car’s character on demand by the push of a button: one can choose anytime between the balanced Standard mode, the comfort-oriented “Tour” mode or the more active “Sport” mode.

Bugatti enthusiasts apparently can make up their minds quickly to spend substantial amounts of money for their favorite car. The elite Italian carmaker has announced all 30 of the new Veyron 16.4 Super Sport have sold — each starting with a base price of about $2.3 million.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport has an eight-liter W16 engine matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch and 1,200 horsepower. It has a top speed of 257 mph.

Last June, the Veyron achieved on a test track a new land speed world record for production cars at 268 mph.

The Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport is still available. It’s not as quick as the Veryon, but has a stop speed 223 mph.

It does have bespoke Aston panels, except for the roof, and the interior is upholstered by Aston's artisans. The metalwork, from the radiator grille to the finishers around the transmission lever, is lovely solid sculpture.

Many Cygnet buyers already own Aston's other models; they tend to get their Cygnets built in a color scheme to match. And many One-77 buyers are ordering up to four coordinated Cygnets. So if forum trolls think the Cygnet is heresy, many actual Aston owners disagree. They're fed up with trying to thread their long-nosed, small-windowed GTs through tight streets. Performance in this environment isn't about 500-odd horsepower; it's more about rapid parking. A 121-inch overall length allows owners to do that.

As we eagerly await the arrival of the upcoming Lotus Esprit, the British automaker has released a teaser video that discusses the progress of its V-8 engine.

The video features Lotus CEO Dany Bahar and
an engine developer, whose long hair and loose-hanging jewelry gets uncomfortably close to some moving engine parts. The clip is purely a tease, as no engine specs or power outputs are provided.

“To take a decision to design your own engine is big decision,” Bahar says in the video. “It’s a brave decision and we’ve taken that decision.”

It’s been a year since we first learned and reported on the next-gen Lotus Esprit. It was rumored to receive a revised Lexus LS V-8 engine, but the news didn’t go over too well with many enthusiasts and Lotus loyalists alike. Ready for a debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the Porsche 918 plug-in hybrid vehicle claims supercar performance, with a clean conscience. The concept car aims to put together fuel efficiency and performance in a single package. It has two electric motors, one for each axle, and with a total output of 218hp. A V8 engine with 500 hp is also available. According to what Porsche says, the 918 Spyder can go from zero to 62mph in just three seconds, have a top speed of 198mph and also have a fuel efficiency of 78mpg.

The car, in essence has four different driving modes to make both performance, and its green claims feasible. The E drive mode draws power from the batteries and gives the car a range of 16 miles. The Hybrid Mode puts the engine to work as well. Then there’s the Sport Hybrid mode, which is quite like the hybrid mode, only with more of the V8 engine involved. Finally, the Race Hybrid mode puts the concept into a performance drive with both powertrains giving it their maximum.

There is one more reason to love your hybrid cars. Besides providing fuel economy, these environment friendly models now offer you safety as well. A research by Highway Loss Data Institute, which studied 25 2003 to 2011 vehicles that featured both conventional and hybrid powertrains, concluded that the occupants in hybrid version are 27% less likely to be injured, in a crash, than those in the nonhybrid models.

Matt Moore, HLDI vice president, claims that the weight plays a critical role in this. Hybrid models on an average are10% heavier than their standard counter parts. This extra beef gives hybrid models an advantage in crashes as the heavier cars usually transfer force to the lighter vehicles.

This study would also be a relief to many of the green-minded drivers. Safety, which came as a trade off for saving fuel, was their major concern with the hybrid cars. However, it’s not a concern anymore.

This, also, is good news to the insurance companies as the green machines need only 25 percent less personal injury protection than their conventional counterparts.

On the flip side, this isn’t good news for pedestrians. The study claims that pedestrians might get involved in accidents as this car travels almost in a silent mode when in electric-only mode.

As the pedestrians can’t hear these cars approaching, when in electric only mode, HLDI suspects that people might step out into the roadway without checking what’s coming. They fear that the hybrid vehicles are 20 percent more likely to be involved in pedestrian crashes with injuries.

However, this can be solved by employing a sound alert system of some kind. Let’s hope that more and more hybrid vehicles would hit the road and contribute more to green environment

The 2011 Tokyo Motor Show had witnessed many charming production and concept models from vehicle manufacturers around the world. Of them, Toyota’s Aqua models caught the interest of many.

Now, at the Detroit Auto Show in early 2012, these Aqua models will serve as the Prius C in the United States. This vehicle would feature a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle four-cylinder engine and an electric motor.

This slender and elegant model car would be equipped with a smaller engine and is expected to give a mileage of over 50 mpg in the city.

It’s been a while since BMW has announced their new BMW ActiveHybrid 5. The whole world waited eagerly to see the beauty roll in. But the wait seemed long. However, putting an end to all anxiety, they have finally removed the wraps off the hybridized ActiveHybrid 5 at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The hybridized 535i is based on BMW 535i sedan and engages BMW’s 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder engine, an electric drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission for the first time.

This is also their first hybrid machine employing an I-6 as its internal combustion engine.

The machine, which employs a precisely controlled energy management to the mix, also features BMW’s a 55-horsepower electric motor, for a total of 335 hp and a 5.7-second run to 60 miles per hour.

This hybridized 535i boasts not only of its sportiest performance, but also a double-digit percentage improvement in fuel economy over the BMW 535i based on preliminary results.

It also provides a relaxed and fuel-efficient driving style by tailoring the driving systems for maximum efficiency, including making more frequent use of all-electric mode.

Reports are that these models should be hitting the US roads early next year. As of now, fuel economy, prices and the other aspects are not known. But we believe that the official notification would follow soon.

It is a known fact that Toyota has a slew of new offerings in the green terrain. The Japanese auto giant is now planning a smaller hatchback version of the Prius. Referred to as Prius C, this smaller vehicle will debut at the Tokyo Motor Show, which is round the corner.

However, we hear the US will have to wait a while after the January Detroit Motor Show to get to drive the Prius C.

This agile hatchback is hardly the size of a Yaris, but has impressive specifications under the hood. Toyota will couple the hybrid powered engine with yet to be exposed “high-output” electric motor with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.

The car will boast less centre of gravity than its predecessor, thereby giving it better maneuverability and luggage space.

Meanwhile, reduced weight and a smaller, less powerful powertrain will ensure better fuel economy as well. Toyota boasts that the car can return over a 50 miles per gallon in the city rides, which would be matching the record fuel economy for any non-plug-in vehicle.
