Volkswagen is recalling 920 2011-12 Audi R8 Spyders because fuel may leak from the sports cars, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In the affected vehicles, which were built between May 18, 2010, and June 21, 2011, the fuel supply line may rub against the heat shield in the engine compartment. This could lead to a small fuel leak. Leaking fuel could cause a vehicle fire if an ignition source is present. You can find when your car was assembled on a label affixed to the driver's side doorjamb.

The recall is expected to begin on or around Aug. 22. Dealers will inspect the fuel line and replace it for free if necessary. Owners can call Audi at 800-822-2834 or NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 for more info.

The redesigned 2012 Volkswagen Passat and the 2012 Audi A6 were named Top Safety Picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

To earn the award, a vehicle must receive the top rating of Good in front, side, rear and rollover crash tests and must have an electronic stability system, which is now a required safety feature on all 2012 vehicles. To pass IIHS’ roof-strength test, a vehicle’s roof must be able to withstand the force of four times the vehicle’s weight. The Passat can withstand an impressive 6.32 times its own weight — the highest ratio of any car in IIHS’ category of midsize moderately priced cars. The A6, which earned the award in the category of large luxury cars, can withstand 4.9 times its own weight.

The previous-generation Passat was also a Top Safety Pick, with good rollover protection. The 2012 Volkswagen CC, another midsize car, was named a Top Safety Pick earlier this summer, but only for front-wheel-drive models.
Neither vehicle has been tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, whose tests include more side-impact test data

2012 Jaguar XKR Sporty Car Design

2012 Jaguar XKR Sporty Car Design

The automaker announced Jaguar new model in 2012, this is 2012 Jaguar XKR.The 2012 Jaguar XK Jaguar was the first car completely developed under the auspices of the Director of Design Ian Callum. Dramatic and useful, yet so sensitive, and can only be a Jaguar, the XK is receiving a series of reviews to improve their contemporary, assertive. Jaguar sports cars have a reputation for blending athletic high-performance with effortless cruising comfort. Nothing exemplifies this dual character more clearly than the XK’s 5.0-litre AJ-V8 engine. The 2012 Jaguar XKR exhilarating driving dynamics are the result of the latest generation of Jaguar’s Adaptive Dynamics technology that provides a continuous and seamlessly variable damping strategy to negate the traditional trade-off between ride comfort and handling.
Perfomance of 2012 Jaguar XKR

The two supercharged variants of the 2012 Jaguar XKR also benefit from Jaguar’s Active Differential Control technology. This uses a multiplate clutch to vector torque to the driven wheel with the most grip. Allied to the ABS and stability control, this allows for the ultimate in traction and precision both mid-corner and at its exit. Non-supercharged models use a mechanical differential, which delivers outstanding levels of grip and stability under power. All models benefit from the Dynamic Stability Control system which offers four modes: normal, Winter, TracDSC and DSC Off, allowing the enthusiastic driver to choose the level of intervention dependent on road conditions.

The central seven-inch Touch-screen provides an intuitive interface for the extensive technology that is seamlessly incorporated into the XK, including iPod and USB connectivity and satellite navigation with DVD mapping. The central screen also projects the image from the new reverse parking camera. Please click image to image gallery of 2012 Jaguar XKR.

Jaguar XKR Price from £97,000 at 2012

Jaguar XKR Price from £97,000 at 2012

2012 Jaguar XKR.The Jaguar automaker has released new vechicle for XKR.Jaguar claims the more assertive styling (which encompasses changes made across the XK range) is dictated as much by function as form. The front and rear aerodynamic enhancements are apparently required to maintain contact with the ground at the XKR-S’s higher top speed: an electronically governed 186mph.

Top speed of new Jaguar XKR is 186mph from 0-62mph : 4.4se, fuel Economy: 23.0mpg (combined); CO2: 292g/km; Kerb weight: 1753kg; Engine: V8, 5000cc, supercharged. The new Jaguar XKR use Power: 542bhp at 6500rpm, torque: 502bhp at 3500rpm and with 6 speed automatic.

Changes to the chassis mirror those previewed on the limited-run Edition 75 and amount to 28 per cent stiffer spring rates over the standard XKR’s, a new aluminium steering knuckle, reprogrammed damper and differential controls, wider tyres and lighter wheels.
New Jaguar XKR (Perfomance)

The standard Jaguar XKR is hardly lacking propulsion, but the S is noticeably quicker again and freer revving at the top end. Partly this is because, subjectively, the S feels like it has a more aggressive throttle map – despite Jaguar’s claims to have softened it (across all XKs) for the 2012 model year. Either way, this is a car where you find yourself backing out of the throttle halfway down a straight in an effort to keep speeds broadly moral.

Amusing though the XKR-S is, there’s a nagging feeling that it is perhaps trying to be something it is not. For the drama and sheer performance, the XKR-S justifies its near-six-figure price but, in the final reckoning, it remains a large, relatively heavy GT. And as GT cars go, it’s difficult to argue against the Jaguar XKR, especially at a saving of £20k. Some even say the sweet spot in the XK range is the standard 5.0-litre model.

The Jaguar XF fix

The Jaguar XF fix
auto, cars, ford, honda, bmw, toyota, audi, nissan, mercedes, ferrari, new cars, new trends, class, modes

It’s fair to say that Jaguar’s reliability history has been, well, a mixed bag. And while we praised our tested XF for being a sporty sedan with strong acceleration and notably nice interior fit and finish, our Jag hasn’t been without its problems.

Case in point: After only 12,000 miles and less than a year in service, the fuel door wouldn’t open and the power driver’s window malfunctioned – it goes up, then comes down an inch and stays there. Ultimately, the window requires a number of switch operations to close it fully.

We called the dealer who told us to bring it in and they’d fix it while we waited.

So I took the car in. While I was there, I found out that there were a couple of outstanding recalls on the XF and it was also due for a free scheduled maintenance. The dealer even offered a loaner (hmmm, can you say “420 hp XKR?”) and said that everything should be ready the next day. Unfortunately, I was handed the keys to an old Isuzu Ascender--twin to the Chevrolet TrailBlazer. When’s the last time you saw an Ascender? Our last tested TrailBlazer had very un-Jaguar-like handling, braking, fuel economy, noise levels, and atrocious fit and finish. Sigh.

But I needed to get to work, so I took the keys and was off.

The next day the dealer called and said the car needed a new window regulator. Unfortunately, these were on back-order. So I waited a week for the part to come in; I was again told that the car should be ready the next day.

The next day the dealer called and told me that the parts that arrived to fix the XF were marked incorrectly and what we really needed was still on back-order. It may be another 1-2 weeks more before they get it.

Thankfully, I have lots of other cars to drive--the Ascender is not exactly a sweet ride--but I imagine that regular Jaguar owners wouldn’t be amused at commuting in this outdated SUV for several weeks while making payments on their cat. At least the Isuzu’s windows go up and stay up.

Meanwhile, we wait and wait until the right part comes in for our Jaguar FiX…stay tuned.

New Jaguar XFR

New Jaguar XFR

Finally The New XFR Is Revealed

Here it is ladies and gentlemen, the moment we've all been waiting for - the new Jaguar XFR has finally been shown to the public for the first time at the Detroit motorshow, and its simply gorgeous!

Pictures hardly do the car justice, so lets get on to the details, sexy exterior first: What you can see are the trademark R bonnet vents from the Jaguar XKR along with a much deeper front bumper with huge chromed air intakes to help the engine breathe, and a deeper protruding front splitter-like lip to give front downforce. Sculpted deep side sills help the look, as does a discreet boot spoiler and trademark R quad exhausts poking out from under the new rear bumper. And to top it off there's a great looking set of turbine style 20" alloys in the style of turbine rotors.

So its a head turner, but how fast does it go? More good news looking at the performance statistics - Jaguar is clearly back into the power war with the German big boys: an all new 510 bhp 5.0 litre V8 motor, (known as the AJ V8 Gen III) with 625Nm of torque available from very low revs means the XFR will have the M5 beat in most driving conditions, due to not just more power but more accessible power 0-60 takes only 4.7 seconds.

Alongside this mighty motor, the Jaguar XFR has some advanced chassis upgrades over the standard XF: a faster steering rack gives more responsive handling, and the standard CATS suspension has been ditched for some electronically controlled Bistein shocks which are linked to the new active rear differential as seen in the latest Ferraris, all controlled on board, meaning if you want to take the XFR to the track and produce some 100 yard powerslides then no problem.

The XFR debuts at your local dealer in March with UK prices set at £59,900 but expect a waiting list. We are looking forward to both reading the road test reports from all the motoring press on this one and also taking this beast for a spin ourselves - we will report back as soon as we've had our bum on the beautifully sculpted seat.

Subaru BRZ Concept 2012

Subaru BRZ Concept 2012

Subaru BRZ Concept

Subaru BRZ that you will be able to buy will (finally) make its official debut later on at the Tokyo Motor Show, where it will join its Toyota FT-86/Scion FRS siblings. According to C/D, all three versions of the car will wear similar body panels with the exception of their faces. Subaru will apply its own mug, while the Toyota and Scion versions will be essentially identical with the exception of badging.
Subaru BRZ Review

Subaru will be responsible for production of all three versions, and the sporty coupe will be built at the Japanese automaker’s Gunma, Japan facility. There the cars will be fitted with 2.0-liter boxer engines and paired with either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox.

Finally, power will be transferred exclusively to the rear wheels (there won’t be an AWD version for the Subaru) through a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions.

2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid First Test Drive

2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid First Test Drive

I had been anticipating the pre-dawn run to the airport for a few days. Having spent the week with a Porsche Panamera Turbo, complete with the torque-boosting Sport Chrono pack (yes, that one), the blast to SFO was a fitting sendoff. It was also perfectly timed.

I was boarding a marathon flight to Austria for the global launch of the Panamera S Hybrid, and after seven days with the Turbo, I was smitten. And concerned.

While the 500 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque from the boosted V8 proved the old adage about absolute power corrupting absolutely, it was the completeness of the Panamera package that left me slack-jawed. When the Stuttgart brain-trust puts its mind to something, they do it right. Look no further than half a century of rear-engined evolution and the much-maligned, but incredibly capable Cayenne. Now add the Panamera to that list. Its sheetmetal might not suit your tastes, but Porsche managed to create the best driving luxury sedan on the market. But a hybrid? They'd better not screw this up. Continue reading...

Porsche is calling this the world's fastest production hybrid and the most economical Porker of all time. With a 0-60 mph time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 168 mph, Porsche nailed the numbers for quick and fast. But with a starting price of $95,000, the "economical" claim is tough to swallow.

However, based purely on fuel consumption, Porsche's PR people have a point. The automaker pegs consumption at 6.8 liters/100 km on the Euro cycle (down from 10.3 for the S' 4.8-liter V8). U.S. EPA figures haven't been released yet, but figuring the Cayenne Hybrid – equipped with the same drivetrain and coming in some 600 pounds heavier – manages 20/24 mpg, a combined figure in the high 20s should be easily within reach.

So what about that drivetrain? It's a variation of the setup fitted to the aforementioned Cayenne and its Volkswagen sibling, the Touareg Hybrid. It starts with VAG's supercharged 3.0-liter V6, outputting the same 333 horsepower you'd get in the Audi S4. Sandwiched between the V6 and the eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission is a 34kW (47-hp) electric motor that brings overall output up to 380 hp and makes this Panamera the world's first full parallel hybrid luxury sedan. The engine alone produces 325 lb-ft, but with the 221 lb-ft of torque created by the electric motor, maximum twist comes in at a claimed 428 lb-ft. The torque curves of the engine and motor meld seamlessly, with peak torque from the electric motor beginning at 1,150 rpm and bleeding off just as the ICE's supercharged torque kicks in to provide uninterrupted shove from 3,300 to 5,250 revs (redline stands at just over 6,500 rpm).

The combined effect is instant-on passing power at the drop of the throttle; not nearly as much horizon-come-hither thrust as the Turbo, but noticeably more than the V8-powered Panamera S, with it's comparatively paltry 369 lb-ft.

So yes, it's quick. And yes, it's smooth. And the eight-speed transmission is quicker and more refined than nearly anything else out of Germany or Japan. But to win on the technology and fuel economy front, the Panamera S Hybrid has to do more than just be another quick Porsche. And that's where it succeeds and surprises.

As you'd expect from any modern hybrid, the Panamera allows you to motor along under electric power as soon as you twist the key. Porsche claims you can hit speeds up to 52.8 mph in "favorable driving conditions" without ever tapping into the V6. However, even the lightest feather-foot would be lucky to max out at 15 or 20 mph before the internal combustion engine kicks in to provide additional motivation.Try as we might, we could never get over 25 mph without having the V6 turn over, even after pressing the E-Power button to modify the throttle mapping, and we suspect that even in the mythical ideal conditions, the average driver will never get past 30 mph without gasoline assistance. But what's more impressive is the Panamera's engine shut-off at "sailing speeds." By easing off the throttle – up to a maximum of 103 mph – the V6 shuts down and the tach drops into the "Ready" mode. The transition is utterly and completely seamless (we could barely hear the engine at part throttle to begin with), and there's nary an ounce of lag or drivetrain shutter as the V6 restarts. It's easily the most fluid, refined changeover we've experienced in a gasoline-electric vehicle.

The cost of all this tech – beyond the $5,000 premium over the V8 S, marginally mitigated by additional standard features, including adaptive air suspension – is weight. The air-cooled, 288-volt nickel-metal hydride battery mounted low in the trunk only weighs in at 160 pounds, and marginally reduces trunk capacity by 110 liters, but overall weight is up over the S by nearly 400 pounds. Despite this, and thanks to an admirable 51:49 weight distribution in the only drivetrain configuration available (rear-wheel drive), the Hybrid drives as well as its conventionally powered siblings.

The electrically-assisted, speed-sensitive steering takes the prize for directness and communication, while the brakes, which come on abruptly during the first 1/4 inch of travel, smooth out to provide linear, fade-free deceleration with the slightest hint of regen. Eighteen-inch wheels with 245/50 R18 rubber in front and 275/45 R18 rollers in the rear come as standard, but the 19-inch wheels on our tester (equipped with 255/45 R19 front, 285/40 R19 rear Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires) still looked undersized when nestled into the cavernous wheel arches. And we'll be the first to admit that the "hybrid" badging on the doors looks as ostentatious as the tacked-on afterthought they are (10 minutes with a hair dryer and some dental floss should rectify that).

While cost-conscious Europeans might be more inclined to opt for the forthcoming diesel Panamera, the Hybrid S has a sort of twisted, techie appeal that we can't seem to get over. It might be slightly compromised over its V6 and V8 brethren, but the overall demeanor and driving experience comes through as pure Porsche: highly involved, remarkably well executed and drawing a bead on evolving the hybrid equation into more than just a lackluster, fuel-sipping conveyance for the environmentally conscious. It's not just a worthwhile addition to the Panamera family, it's a legitimate alternative for V8-averse luxury buyers. And knowing Porsche, it's obvious I shouldn't have worried.

2012 Jaguar XF 30 percent To Increase UK Sales

2012 Jaguar XF 30 percent To Increase UK Sales

The Jaguar automaker has released new vehicle with price under £31k, this is 2012 Jaguar XF The new four-cylinder diesel facelifted Jaguar XF is expected to increase UK sales by 30 percent to 16,000 vehicles a year. The 2012 Jaguar XF entry price will be just under £31k. The new 2.2 i4D diesel will take the XF into the mainstream of the executive saloon market, an area that contributes up to 90 per cent of some competitors’ sales.

“We’re matching the powertrain to the market segments, which is not rocket science and will give us a strong sales lift,” said Jaguar boss Adrian Hallmark.Unveiled at the recent New York motor show, the revised 2012 Jaguar XF is a substantial facelift. All of the visual parts ahead of the A-pillar are new.“This is definitely the best facelift I’ve done at Jaguar,” said design chief Ian Callum. “These changes make the XF look a bit more serious.

Also on its way is a four-wheel-drive 2012 Jaguar XF, which will extend Jag’s market penetration in the snowbelt states of the US, which includes New York. Around three-quarters of executive saloon sales in the snowbelt are all-wheel drive.Jaguar recently confirmed a new model offensive, launching 40 new and revised models and powertrains by 2016.

“It is the most ambitious new product programme in the history of JLR,” said Jaguar Land Rover chief executive Ralf Speth. “We are spending billions of pounds in product innovation.” The board of JLR owner Tata Motors has “just” approved these plans, said Speth. Please Click image to image gallery of 2012 Jaguar XF.

Jaguar XKR-S First Drive 2012

Jaguar XKR-S First Drive 2012

There are two ways to celebrate finding an extra 39 horsepower in the performance version of a sports flagship. You can call it "improving the breed" and make it part of a mid-cycle "face-lift," or you can add a letter and make it the ultra ne plus ultra.

Jaguar chose the latter. It boosted the supercharged 5.0-liter V-8's 503 horsepower to 542, jacked up torque by 41 lb-ft to 502 lb-ft, freed up the speed limiter from 155 mph to 186 mph (a metric-round 300 km/h), and shaved 0.4 seconds off the 0-60 mph time, to 4.2. It lowered the ride height by 0.4 inches, stiffened the front suspension uprights, and raised spring rates by 28 percent front, 32 percent rear. This will cost you $35k-plus more than a garden-variety XKR coupe, the only bodystyle in which the XKR-S will be offered when it goes on sale this fall.

In the sports car universe, the XKR-S is still a big-bore blown V-8 gran turismo. It's a car with horsepower, and especially, torque that surpasses the 10/10ths handling capabilities that could be judiciously used on the esses of Portugal's mountain roads. That's why Jaguar let us loose with a professional coach in the passenger seat on the Autodromo Internacional Algarve, an especially twisty, technical track with elevation changes and blind corners.

With its stiffened front uprights, the XKR-S gives you quick, crisp turn-in via its light-touch steering. With its active differential and the adaptive dynamics system in track mode, the tail can come out with injudicious use of the throttle. The right amount of throttle steer for quicker cornering happens only when you keep the car on the edge of oversteer with the weight of the tail shifting slightly to the outside of the corner. Overdrive it, and you'll scrub speed with a short lateral slide of the grippy rear tires.

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 first drive 2012

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 first drive 2012

According to Lamborghini, the all-new 691-horsepower Aventador LP 700-4 supercar can blast from 0 to 62 mph in a scant 2.9 seconds. How much time is that? About how long it takes to query, "How long is that?" This, of course, means the burst to 60 will be an even brisker 2.7, or "How long is..." Still better is Lamborghini's projected quarter-mile time of 10.5 seconds, a full tick ahead of the last 638-horse Corvette ZR1 we tested. Wow is right.

Supercars from Sant'Agata have always been known for crazy speed, so in the interest of full disclosure, the Aventador's top clip is an especially ludicrous 217 mph. Also ludicrous: a sticker price starting at $393,695, or over thrice the price of said ZR1. That's a lot of moola, for sure, but given the Aventador's scintillating stats, it begins to look less rip-off Vette and more bargain Bugatti, a car that costs roughly $2 million yet is barely quicker. All that said, when waxing lyrical about his brand's latest achievement, Lamborghini president and CEO Stephan Winklemann isn't as enamored with the Aventador's dynamite acceleration, or stratospheric top speed, or single-family-home price tag as he is with the supercar's handling. Yes, unlike Lambo's previous poster material -- last year's Murcielago, and the Diablo and Countach before that -- the Aventador's number-one development objective was to turn right and left as skillfully as it jets straight ahead.

If you don't believe me, consider the following: Instead of holding the Aventador's press launch at a multi-mile airstrip or high-speed oval, both of which are conducive for accel and Vmax testing, Lamborghini chose the Autodromo di Vallelunga, a tidy, 10-turn track just outside of Rome. This is a venue where the steering wheel rarely resides on-center. Further, the Aventador utilizes numerous high-tech advancements designed for conquering extreme lateral -- more so than longitudinal -- forces: electronically controlled Haldex IV all-wheel drive, a dry-sump oil system, F1-style pushrod and rocker-arm-actuated coil-over shock suspension, and a 150-percent-stiffer 325-pound carbon-fiber monocoque structure that helps reduce the body-in-white to 506 pounds, about 30 percent lighter than the Murcielago's. Ferrari flagships have always been superior track stars, a fact the Aventador is out to change.
